150 Years of Curling

The Club celebrated 150 years of curling at the Golden Lion Hotel on Saturday 17th November 2007. See the booklet here. The main pages of the booklet have been recreated here and the table of contents below links to the highlights of the Club's journey through those years mostly from the personal reflections of some of its most influential members.

Alex McWattie (with brush) and Willie Young (playing stone)

This picture was taken during the Grand Match on the Lake of Menteith in 1979, Willie Young tragically suffered a stroke days after this picture was taken and never curled again. Both Willie and Alex received honorary memberships from Sauchie and Bannockburn Curling Club, Alex for his 16 years’ service as secretary, and Willie, who was a member of Airth, for his exploits on the ice.

The McWattie trophy was presented by Alex’s family for annual competition in his memory.

150 Years of Membership to the RCCC

The Club has also been a member of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club since 1860 and received the medal shown in 2010 to celebrate that anniversary.
